This is one of Grandmas recipes. I didnt make it very often, but sometimes the thought of warm gingerbread with a little whipped cream is really appealing.
½ cup butter or Crisco
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup molasses
2 ½ cups flour
½ tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger
½ tsp nutmeg
½ tsp cloves
1 cup boiling water
Oven 350 9 x 13 pan
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Add the egg and beat well. Mix in the molasses. Sift together the dry ingredients and mix in. Add the boiling water and blend until smooth. Pour into 9 x 13 pan. Bake at 350 30 to 35 minutes. Let cool in pan.
